“Selected Jewish Shorts" features short stories by Jewish writers read aloud in English. Ranging from drama to comedy to fantasy, the stories are drawn from a rich heritage, including Yiddish, American Jewish, and Israeli writers old and new.

On November 21 we present: The Many Lives of THE GOLEM

Join us as for the screening of a contemporary Israeli film, "Time of Favor" (in Hebrew, Ha-Hesder), with English subtitles. The film will be followed by a facilitated discussion over coffee and cake in the tradition of the Israeli Cinematech.

"Ha Hesder" is the winner of six Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and highly acclaimed in its US theatrical release.

All are welcome to participate in the BAS Book Group, which meets to discuss books of Jewish interest. The books range from historical fiction and novels to memoir and nonfiction about contemporary and past Jewish experience and issues. Discussions are lively and informative. Come join us.

This month we will discuss Judah Ha-levi Biography by Hillel Halkin of the poet’s life and times in medieval Spain, part of the Jewish Encounters series.
