Junior Congregation

This joyous group, led by our own Bet Am Shalom teens, shares the experience of community prayer and song and explores the weekly Torah portion in engaging, age-appropriate activities.

Through our Madrichim (Guides) class for teens, Junior Congregation Leaders will learn and plan engaging ways to teach prayer and Torah with our BAS children and families.

Families are encouraged to attend the main service in the Sanctuary from 9:45am-11am before Junior Congregation, which runs from 11am-noon, and rejoin the main service together at noon.

Children in grades K-6 and their families are invited to participate in grade level Shabbat days, when the children will help read Torah and/or lead prayers in Junior Congregation.

This program is for all BAS children, regardless of where they receive their Jewish education.  Participating in Shabbat morning services is a great opportunity to build and strengthen your connections to the BAS community.

BAS children enrolled in the Hebrew School will practice for their grade level Shabbat in class. BAS children not enrolled in the Hebrew School can practice at home or with a teen madrich/a (guide) on Sundays.

Children are encouraged to lead a prayer or read Torah in Junior Congregation throughout the year.  Contact Education Director eddirector [at] betamshalom [dot] org (Abby Reiken) for more information.
